Ever wanted to know how Gustave Eiffel made Paris’s iconic tower? or how the Crystler building came into being? Didier Cornille’s book is a colourful tour of 8 of the world’s tallest buildings including The John Hancock Building in Chicago, The Torre Agbar in Barcelona and Dubai’s Burj Khalifa tower.

Each architect is given a brief introduction followed by an outline of the construction of their designs, Cornille adopts a simple approach focusing on key facts along with some interesting additions, I never knew that the Eiffel tower was used to study the force of wind and measuring gravity, or that the pioneers of aviation tested their models there!

Didier Cornille is a designer and professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts Du Mans
