Pokko & The Drum Parade

Sat 20th & Sun 21st April, The Heath Bookshop Literature & Music Festival

Join us for some parading and racket making to celebrate The Heath Bookshop Literature & Music Festival

The biggest mistake Pokko’s parents ever made was giving her the drum…
It’s a thought that has crossed the minds of many a parent! And it will be our starting point as we set off to make a right old racket in celebration of The Heath Bookshop’s inaugural Literature & Music festival, jumping in with both feet providing drums, tambourines, costumes and performance rights to a lovely bunch of animals ..ahem.. we mean children, to create a fitting procession / performance inspired by Matthew Forsythe’s fantastic book Pokko & The Drum. P.s we promise there will be no eating of band members.

Here’s how to get involved:

About Pokko & The Drum
A firm favourite at How Brave Is The Wren, Pokko & The Drum is written and illustrated by Matthew Forsythe and it charts the journey of young Pokko who, after repeated complaints from his parents, takes the drum deep into the forest.. it is so quiet, so very quiet that Pokko decides to play. And before she knows it she is joined by a band of animals —first the raccoon, then the rabbit, then the wolf—and soon the entire forest is following her. Will Pokko hear her father’s voice when he calls her home?

Pokko and the Drum is a story about art, persistence, and a family of frogs living in a mushroom.

This event is part of ‘The Heath Bookshop Literature and Music Festival‘ which is supported using public funding by National Lottery through Arts Council England” Click HERE for the full festival programme.

Pokko & The Drum Parade is presented in association with “Supersonic Kids Gigs” created by the UK’s premiere experimental music festival, Supersonic Kids Gigs are designed for families as a way of introducing children to experimental music – BIG sounds for little people!
