The Mellops Go Spelunking

The most adventurous family of pigs…

They really are the most adventurous family of pigs and this time the Mellops are off Spelunking after a nice quiet game of golf is inconveniently halted when the golf ball disappears down a crevice.

A truly bizarre tale of a family of pigs who go on a cave exploration to find their golf ball, but instead discover paintings probably created by cavepigs thousands of years ago and, after nearly getting trapped by a storm that floods the cave, they uncover a stash of barrels containing perfume, but who could have left them there?

Spelunking, for those of you who don’t know (I didn’t) is the real word for “the exploration of caves, especially as a hobby”…

Tomi Ungerer created this family of pigs more than fifty years ago and they became instant bestsellers. Thankfully Phaidon have reissued them for a new generation of children to delight in their fanciful tales. Tomi Ungerer was awarded the Hans Christian Anderson Award in 1998 for illustration. The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children’s books.
