In the sunny, thriving city of Aleppo in Syria, a little grey cat enjoys a wonderful life. She plays with her friends around the marble mosques, sunbathes under the palm trees and eats well.

But on the day the humans with boots arrive, everything changes. Her friends disappear, there is nothing to eat and even the sun vanishes behind thick, black smoke.

The little cat is scared, lonely and hungry until a different human finds her. He is kind and patient and shows her a safer, calm place where she finds friends, food and peace.

Inspired by the bravery and indomitable spirit of Mohammad Alaa Aljaleel, the ‘Cat Man of Aleppo’, this is the ultimate story of how hope can still thrive during times of extreme adversity and of the ripple effect that spreads from small acts of kindness.

Stunningly emotive illustrations depict the stark contrast between a beautiful, historic city in peacetime and the wreckage that is left by bombing and shelling in a time of war. Seeing things from the point of view of a small, defenceless cat may help youngsters understand and empathise with a situation that millions of people and animals experience every year.

About Hiba Noor Khan
Hiba Noor Khan is a writer and activist based in the north of England. Her academic background is in physics and engineering and she completed postgraduate study in 2015 at the University of Oxford. Since then she has worked as a Refugee Advocacy Worker for The Children’s Society and Physics teacher. She has written six children’s book so far including the Carnegie Award nominated Safiyyah’s War
